Fans of the Huntington Beach hard-rock band Avenged Sevenfold turned out Friday evening for a candlelight vigil in memory of the band's drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan.
Sullivan, 28, was found dead in his Huntington Beach home on Dec. 29. The Orange County Coroner's Office has yet to rule on a cause of death pending the results of toxicology and other tests.
William Roe of Bakersville, from left, Sheila Ramm of Lake Elsinore and Jacky Krausse of Riverside remember Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan at Friday night's vigil at Huntington Beach Central Park. "I would not be person I am." said Jacky Krausse about Sullivan's influence on her.
If you attended the vigil and would like to share your stories with others and/or your pictures, send me an email at a7xfansdotcom@gmail.com and I will add it to the site.
Modern Drummer is holding it's annual Readers Poll. Besides being able to vote for your favorite drummer and percussionist, you can also vote for the 2010 Modern Drummer Hall of Fame spot. Honestly, we can only think of one person that would be right for this spot and I know you all agree. So please head over and vote for our very own Jimmy Sullivan. Let's make him proud once more!
Voting ends February 15th, 2010 and the results will be announced in the July issue of Modern Drummer.
Many of you have asked me to post this over the past few days. However, I chose not to, as it seemed disrespectful to me to 'just' move on like that, while it had not been a week. This is still a very difficult time for family and friends, even for some fans still. - Thanks to everyone for messaging me about this though!
Yesterday, James "Jimmy" Owen Sullivan, better known as "The Rev", was put to rest at his final resting place. Many loved ones said their final goodbyes. Here's what Brian Haner Sr had to say about the funeral:
Please do not message me and ask me for any further details regarding Jimmy's funeral or his final resting place. Please respect the privacy of his family and friends. Please respect Jimmy - let him rest in peace.
We would like to thank all of Jimmy’s fans for the heartfelt comments that have been posted – it is comforting to know that his genius and antics were appreciated and that he was loved so much. Our hearts are broken – he was much too young to fall.
February 9, 1981 – December 28, 2009 Óg agus saor go deo (forever young and free)
Barbara & Joe, Kelly & Katie & the extended Sullivan family
2009 has been a great year for Avenged Sevenfold. The band did a lot of touring all over the place and got to play with musical influences like Slash and Metallica (again) and got to play in front of many of you. After touring for months, the guys wrapped it up and headed back home to take their hard needed rest and spend time with their loved ones.
In the past few months, we were slowly getting updates on the new material they were working on. In between, Matt finally got to marry his Valary and, without a doubt, had the best day of his life. Zacky got a lot of work done with his clothing company Vengeance University. 2009 couldn't have gotten any better.
Unfortunately, December 28th turned into a black day for Avenged Sevenfold. Losing their friend, their brother, James 'Jimmy' Owen Sullivan was something no one could have ever predicted. Jimmy's death was a shock to all of us. It has been a few days, yet it seems so surreal that he is no longer with us.
Right now is a time for mourning. His family, his friends and us fans. I understand that many of you might not be in the mood to celebrate New Years Eve today - neither am I. But whether you celebrate or not, I ask you all to look back at 2009 and be grateful for all the good things in life, the good things that happened to you this past year. For one moment, don't mourn Jimmy's death, but celebrate his life, the years he was here on earth, with all of us. He left us all with great music and great memories. Think about those, look up at the sky and smile.
Avenged Sevenfold fans, friends, please stay strong during this difficult time and remember that all of us fans are here to support each other right now. May 2010 be a better year for all of us. I wish you love, luck, health and happiness.
A lot is happening at the moment and it's hard to keep up with it all. I will make a list below, containing any news about Jimmy's passing and so on. Also, lots of posts have been made by celebrities and/or friends regarding his passing, so I will put those up as well.
A big thank you to everybody sending information, links and so on. You're a big help. <3

Candle Light Vigil in honor of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan When: Friday, January 8th, 2010.
There will be a candle light vigil held in honor of Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, who sadly passed away on Monday, December 28, 2009. This vigil will give those pained by his passing a chance to say their goodbyes, and a chance to mourn with others.
It will be held in Central Park, Huntington Beach, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, at the “Rotary Bandshell”. This is a concrete platform with an archway and eight flags. It is located behind the Huntington Beach Public Library. Park in the parking lot south of the library. To get there, turn on Central Park Library, off of Golden West.
It’d be an honor for many people to show up and pay their respects. Time will be given for anyone who wishes to share memories, poems, etc. Please bring your own candles, and candle holders if you have them! Just a helpful tip: you can cut the bottom out of a plastic or Styrofoam cup, stick the candle through the hole, and use it as a candle holder!! We will have a few extras if needed. :)
It comes with great sadness that I have to put this kind of news on here. Our very own Jimmy Owen Sullivan has passed away Monday in his own home in Orange County, California. I am terribly shocked and have absolutely no words. Please head over to the official Avenged Sevenfold website for the official announcement from the band.
Rest in peace, Jimmy. We miss you already.
